Comprising 7 provinces, the Basque Country straddles France and Spain, to the west of the Pyrenees mountain range where it joins the Atlantic Ocean. In France, there are 3 Basque provinces<\/a>: Labourd to the west, with the well-known coastal towns of Biarritz<\/a> (its capital), Bayonne<\/a>, Hendaye<\/a>, etc., Basse Navarre in the center and Soule to the east. The Spanish Basque Country<\/a> is made up of 4 other provinces: Guip\u00fazcoa, whose capital is Vitoria-Gasteiz, Alava with San Sebasti\u00e1n<\/a>, Navarre with Pamplona, and finally Vizcaya, with Bilbao <\/a>as its capital; all must-see cities during a stay in the Spanish Basque<\/a> Country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climate of the Basque Country<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The region enjoys a mild, temperate climate thanks to the influence of the Gulf Stream, with temperatures averaging 13 to 15\u00b0 year-round. Winters remain mild, with few frosts and summers without excessive temperatures. Rainfall is generally high, with the Pyrenees holding back clouds.
