The Kakuetta Gorge: a natural wonder<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Kakuetta gorges were discovered by \u00c9douard-Alfred Martel in 1906. They are located in Sainte-Engr\u00e2ce in the Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es-Atlantiques region. The vegetation is luxuriant, as the area enjoys a tropical climate. The Kakuetta gorges reach a depth of 350m. Don’t hesitate to explore the 20 m waterfall. You’ll find a small path leading to a wonderful lake. Put yourself in the shoes of a great explorer, surrounded by your family and friends. In the heart of the Kakuetta Gorge, you’ll be sandwiched between two mountains. Get your fill of fresh air. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a leash at all times. Please respect the flora and fauna of the gorge by not picking flowers or plants. Swimming and fishing are prohibited. Tips for exploring Kakuetta Gorge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Water flows generously everywhere and tends to make the ground slippery in the Kakuetta Gorge. When you’re well equipped in the mountains, you can better appreciate nature. Wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes with good outsoles. Always check the weather before exploring. Stroller access is impossible, so bring a baby carrier. The Kakuetta Gorge is cool, even in summer, so keep a sweater handy in your backpack. Bring a picnic if you arrive early and plan to stay a few hours. Whatever happens, always take a bottle of water with you so you have something to drink. Please take care of the environment and bring a bag to dispose of your garbage. Helmets are available for the public at the site entrance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to visit Kakuetta Gorge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Kakuetta Gorge welcomes adventurers from 8am between March and November. For a day trip to the Kakuetta Gorge, under-16s pay 4.50 euros for entry and adults 6 euros. You can take the A63 at Saint-Jean-de-Luz Sud and the A64 to reach the gorges de Kakuetta. The round trip to the waterfall takes between 2 and 2.5 hours. It’s best to venture out in the morning and discover the Holzarte footbridge.
